About
WatiWorks is the brainchild of Wati Larke, creator and designer of both the website and icons. The website was established in 2000 when it first offered freeware icons for download. Since then, Wati has received a constant stream of requests for custom icons and other Design Services. The website has gone through several changes in design and will continue to develop and evolve. Wati currently lives in Tokyo.
Education
In 2005, Wati received her Master of Arts (with Distinction) in Electronic Media from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom. Her graduation thesis was titled The Evolution of Icons in the Past 40 years. This research covered numerous aspects of semiotics and sign systems as well as computer icons and Human Computer Interface (HCI) design. She now applies this knowledge throughout her work.
Tools of the trade
There are many tools on the market for designers but Wati uses mainly Illustrator and Photoshop along with the IconBuilder plugin for icon creation and production.
For the website, she uses Dreamweaver. She is also experienced with InDesign, Flash, ActionScript and CSS.
When playing
Apart from making icons, she also enjoys travelling, cooking, making videos and photography.
